I needed a new moisturizing mask so I went to Sephora last week to find one. It's hard for me to just be the client as an industry insider because I can tell when some one's just trying to make a sale, so I always feel better trying things for myself.
But that day I let go & asked a sales girl for help. If you've ever beauty shopped w/me, you know this is extremely unusual. I like to look around & play w/products (on the back of my hand, I'd never use a tester & I strongly advise against it) & not be bothered until I have a question or go to check out. I loathe pushy sales people & shut them down at the door!
Fortunately for me the salesgirl I approached couldn't have been more knowledgeable & endearing as she showed me a few masks. My skin is pretty normal but I know you can never be too hydrated. This time I was looking for a something that was both hydrating and moisturizing.
*FYI*--If you lack hydration, you need water. If you lack moisture, you need oil.
Anyway, I walked in wanting a mask w/ a thick cold cream consistency. I live in Arizona right now so even while the sun isn't too strong this time of year, it's still 70-80 degrees with zero humidity. While my skin isn't usually dry, it feels like it in this dry air. So I've become more conscious of how to treat it. In NYC there was obviously more humidity so I concentrated more on hydration. I wanted something more luxe than your average $4-$10 product.
The sales girl tries to show me an exfoliating mask but I like products to focus! I don't mind using a few items to get maximum results. I know there are a lot of time saving, multi-functioning products but I feel like those are for people who don't like a lot of steps, but I do so I'd rather use a few & be able to experience the product for what it is.
She then shows me the boscia Intensifying Moisture Pack+. Before I try anything on my hands I always rub some water into the skin first & let it absorb. This opens the skin so it can take in the product better. So I did that & put about 2 droplets on my hand and spread it. It was smooth going on but not too slippery where it felt silicone based & full of fake ingredients. It smelled clean, w/no perfumes or odd dyes. I waited about 3 minutes & wiped it off w/a wet tissue. My skin felt velvety & looked really fresh & dewy. I waited a few more minutes to see if it would dry out but it stayed moist. I was impressed! I loved it right away & I bought it on the spot!
I like that it delivers what's promised and quickly. I don't have the patience to wait for a product to do it's job.
It comes in a squeezy tube, which I love because nothing will go to waste.
It retails for $30.00 & is 2.8 oz. It's not a lot of money for what you get. A little goes a long way, so if you use it properly, it should last a good while.

Normal to Dry
Aging
As a Mask: Massage onto cleansed, dry face and throat with gentle circular motions. Leave for two to three minutes, then tissue or rinse off. Follow with Balancing Facial Tonic. Use twice a week.
As an Intensifier: Massage a small amount into thirsty skin. Do not rinse. Follow with treatment and/or SPF moisture.

The key to using your mask is finding the right products for your skin type & knowing how to use them. Map it out & see what you need for what areas. I recommend going to a dermatologist and/or Esthetician if you don't know how to figure it out yourself, but don't guess.
For example, don't use a clay mask every night, on your entire your face because it's looks funny to have a typical green mask on. Clay is very drying so if you have dry skin this will work against you. Know your skin so you can know how to care for it properly with the perfect products.
*MAXIMIZE*
Don't over do it. A mask should be used 1-2 a week after exfoliating. That's it. Any more, depending on what you use, can either over saturate or strip skin of it's natural oils causing other problems.
Always exfoliate before your mask. It removes dead skin from the surface so your product will penetrate deeper. I do this in the shower because my skin is already open from steam. I exfoliate then apply mask & rinse before I get out.
Don't waste your time applying it to dry, unclean skin. It won't be nearly as effective.
Here's another company who is very approachable. I found their twitter & whoever runs it is extremely sweet. This makes me want to keep supporting them because it's been a good experience all around.
