Mon histoire d'amour avec le rouge a levres rouge (My love affair with Red Lipstick)

My love for Red lipstick started when I was a little girl. It seemed like every woman I admired, or thought was glamorous, wore bright Red lipstick. From Marilyn Monroe to Madonna to Elizabeth Taylor to Bettie Page to my Grandma; Red lipstick made an everlasting impression on me.
I associate a Red pout with many styles like the blonde bombshells of the 50's, the "Glamour of Old Hollywood." Even though Joan Collins' character (Alexis Carrington-Colby) on Dynasty (yes, I said Dynasty) was an 80's vixen, she'd always wear this shiny, red vampy gloss to show her strength as a "Queen of New Hollywood" that was a force to be reckoned with!
I also think of Paris! A Vidal Sassoon bob, classic Jean Paul Gaultier style striped shirt with a Beret, Capri pants, ballet flats and Red lips. Divine!
Whether it's in full color or black & white, there's no mistaking the power behind a perfectly applied Red lip.
I wasn't allowed to wear it outside of the house until I was in my teens but my mom would let me wear it while at home. I'd spend hours putting it on, perfecting the application so my lips looked just right!
Not much has changed because my friends still tease me about how it takes 20 minutes to put on my red lipstick! Lol! (It doesn't really take 20 minutes but I do get into it)
I love other colors too but there's something about wearing red lipstick that feels empowering.
It's like slipping on really sexy stilettos, a backless gown, or being covered in diamonds! It's so powerful that I usually pair it with demure makeup or pin-up style liquid eyeliner for extra sex appeal.
Either way, it's transformative powers are undeniable!

In case you're wondering, I think my favorite of all time is the INGLOT #44. It's such a perfect cherry red. It doesn't hurt that every time I wear it, people ask what it is and say how nice it looks.
I believe it suits me best ;-)

Here are some of my favorite *Showstopper* Reds: (Clockwise L to R)
Cherry (M.A.C Lip Liner)
Adrenaline (Urban Decay, Super Saturated Lip Color)
Ruby Woo (M.A.C, Matte)
M.A.C Red (M.A.C, Satin)
Powerhouse (M.A.C, Amplified)
Fire & Ice (Revlon, Creme)
#44 (INGLOT, Slim Lipstick)
#46 (INGLOT, Slim Lipstick)
True Red (L'Oreal, Colour Riche)
Absolute Rouge (Lancome, L'Absolu Rouge)

2 other lip liners I like to use with my reds are Spice & Redd, both by M.A.C. Spice is neutral so it'll add dimension & tone down the color and Redd is a little more on the orange side.

Not shown here (simply because I ran out of it) is Russian Red (M.A.C). It's a classic deeper red that's been around forever.
I also would have added another favorite, a bright slightly, orangey red, by M.A.C called Pivot (Matte) but it's discontinued and I didn't think it was necessary to torture you all!
But, I did wear it on my birthday 2 weeks ago and the girls at M.A.C loved it!! As soon as I walked in the store 3 girls all stopped and said, "What IS that?! It's gorgeous!" Lol! I was like, "It's M.A.C! But it's discontinued" (Womp,Womp) But trust me, it's a stunner!

We've all heard the experts say you should line your lips & fill them in with liner before applying lipstick so that when the lipstick wears off, there will still be color on your lips. This only works for me when the lip liner is almost identical to the lipstick. I don't like to alter the colors too much so to keep it simple I'll just line, and apply.
The key to a perfect application is a good lip liner, some translucent powder (to apply around the lips to prevent bleeding,) practice and confidence!
What makes your Red lips look best is how you wear them. You have to own it! It's just lipstick, not a tattoo. I've come across so many women that are literally afraid to wear Red. I tell them that's nonsense! Put it on, forget about it and keep going. Enjoy it!
Wear it, don't let it wear you ;-)

Red lipstick is timeless and universal. It speaks for itself and can stand alone. What other makeup item can say that?

Keep it pretty!

What's NEW @ *The New Beauty Review*

Hi Beauties!

First of all, thank you so much for reading, commenting and showing support in any way. This is a new venture for me so I'm learning as I go but I'm really satisfied with the response thus far & I know it'll just get better. So, thank you again. It doesn't go unnoticed ;-)

I just wanted to do a quickie blog about some of what I have planned for *The New Beauty Review* this week and in weeks to come.

Some of this week's topics:
*My first Shoe Giveaway*, *MY favorite Red Lipsticks*, *Nails Galore*, *Step By Step-My Skincare Routine* and I'm hoping (crossing my fingers) to do my first vlog, ever. (Eeek!)

For me, one of the best parts of being a Makeup Artist is that I get to be behind the camera, which is where I'm most comfortable. So the idea of doing a video is a little scary for me. Lol!
I put up a box on the right side of my blog asking "what do you want to hear more about" because yes, this is MY blog & I can talk about whatever I want but I care about what you want to see as well! I've gotten a lot of requests via email, twitter & facebook for tutorials & vlogs so I'll see what I can do to make that happen for you. I can't promise they'll be fancy shmancy but they will be informative, which is all we care about anyway, right? ;-)

Starting this week, I'll be doing monthly, themed giveaways! I'm super festive and always looking for any excuse to celebrate, any & everything!

My requirements to enter are simple:
*you must follow my twitter- @NewBeautyReview
*"Like" my facebook page- facebook.com/TheNewBeautyReview
*sign up for my blog (via email or directly on my site.)
After you've entered, I'll either ask to have my tweets RT'd or to "like" certain pics on my FB page or answer questions, either way it'll all be fun things like that. I'll then announce the winner as the "Beauty of The Month." Voila!

All of my goody bags will have a nice mix of makeup & novelty items, some will have; eye shadow, lip gloss, lipstick, blush, bronzer, liquid liner, glitter, Rhinestones, lashes, nail polish (yes, nail polish counts)...etc

To start, I'll be doing a Valentine's Day giveaway with some fun red/pink goodies like: lipstick, nail polish, glitter, lashes, heart shaped pink & red rhinestonescandy & a few more yummy surprises! This will probably be a bigger one than usual because it's such a fun day and who doesn't love "LOVE" ?? So I'll be sure to make it extra sweet ;-)

St. Patrick's Day will be a nice package of green goodies and Easter will be a nice pastel bag of treats!

You get the idea...but it will be every month so be on the look out! ~O.O~

I'm also thinking of doing a "Lip of the day" picture. We all know by now that I have more lip products than any other so I'd like to start showing different color combos & looks for different occasions. That's coming up soon, probably this week.

That's all I can think of for now!

Keep it pretty!

How I Clean/Disinfect My Brushes, Sponges, Powder Puffs, Tools & Lashes

I wanted to do a quickie write up on how I clean my (personal & professional) brushes, sponges, powder puffs, tools & lashes.
Let me start by saying, I have 2 sets; my personal that I only use on myself and then I have my brush belt, which is strictly for clients.
I've had all of my brushes for a very long time (Except the sponges/lashes, I tend to change those more frequently) because I take very good care of them. Like anything else, I can't expect them to give me maximum results if they're all dirty & raggedy.
Aside from plain looking dirty, when you don't sanitize your tools, you're putting everyone at risk for contracting infections.
No thank you!
My process goes way beyond a daily spritz of brush cleaner & a weekly wash with baby shampoo...Here's exactly what I do & how often I do it!

Brush Cleaner:
I have a little jar that I fill about half way w/brush cleaner. I do this because if it gets too cloudy, I end up throwing it all away. It's too wasteful for me so I just fill it with what is needed.
I change this weekly or sooner if it gets too cloudy. I dip smaller brushes in this jar & swirl around until makeup comes off.
I also have a small spray bottle I use on my bigger brushes.
I rotate between 3 brands: M.A.C, Crown Brush & Parian Spirit.

Brush Cleaning Towel:
I use old washcloths for this specifically so I won't stain newer ones. After I use the brush cleaner, I like to wipe away excess liquid on here to make sure they're clean.

Anti-Bacterial Soap:
I believe my brush cleaners do a good enough job so I usually save this step for my Pro brushes to give them an extra cleaning.
I'll take a pump or 2 of anti-bac soap (like a good smelling Dial) in my hand and wet the brushes and swirl them around in the soap.
Rinse, squeeze out water until it runs clear of makeup and bubbles.

Shampoo:
Brushes are made of hair so naturally they need a trip to the brush salon too! I know that if I want my hair to be soft, flowing & shiny then I need to use a good product. Same for my brushes!
I like Matrix, Sleek b/c it smooths, softens & calms the hair. Who wants to use a frizzy, scraggly looking, hard brush on their face? Nobody, that's who.
I use this in the same way that I do the anti-bac soap.

Conditioner:
This is for the real hair brushes, synthetics don't really need it. I squeeze out a little bit of the Matrix, Sleek conditioner either in a small dish or in my hand and after a good shampoo I like to get a small amount of this on each brush and work it in.
I leave each one to condition in the order that they're washed so they have a few minutes to sit with the conditioner on.
After a good few minutes, rinse, reshape brushes and hang them over the side of a counter. This helps them dry faster as air gets in from both sides.

Powder Puffs:
I use Alcone's washable puffs. It's the only brand I use because they're the best & they last forever. I put these right in the wash with towels and/sheets. Wash these in hot water & I prefer using a dye/perfume free detergent so they won't be so chemically treated.
These can air dry.

Facial Sponges:
I wash and dry these the same way as the puffs.

Makeup Sponges:
I also use only the Alcone sponges for the same reason I like their puffs, they're the best.
To clean these I simply pump some anti-bac soap in my hand and squeeze all the product out. I just keep squeezing while running under water until it runs clear of makeup & bubbles.
These expand when wet, then shrink right back down to original size when dry.
I don't know why that fascinates me...*heehee*

Lashes:
I mainly use Ardell lashes because they've always worked for me. They're not expensive & they are extremely durable. After removing lashes (ever so carefully) I'll pull off any excess glue that's still on the lash line with my fingers.
To remove mascara off of them, I just hold them down on a paper towel & with a Q-Tip dipped in makeup remover, I'll go over them until they're clean.
*Pro Lashes*- I don't care if it weakens the material over time, but I'll take a Q-Tip dipped in 99% alcohol & run it across the lash line & down the lashes. Just to be safe for next time ;-)

Tools: (Mine & Pro-Not Including Brushes)
This goes for spatulas, tweezers, scissors, brow brushes, cuticle nippers & nail clippers...They ALL get washed with anti-bac soap AND soaked in 99% proof, professional grade, alcohol. I have a separate small jar filled with 99%alcohol that I use just for soaking freshly washed tools.
I like to let them soak for at least 10 minutes.

My Personal Brush Care Routine: (If Used)

Daily:
Brush Cleaner
Towel

Weekly/Bi-Weekly:
Anti-Bac Soap
Shampoo
Conditioner

(Clockwise L to R: Big brush cleaner, Towel, My brushes (organized by size) Spray bottle used to clean bigger brushes, Shampoo/Conditioner.
Front Row L to R: Facial sponge, Makeup sponge, Powder puff, Small jar w/brush cleaner used to clean smaller brushes)

*Professional Brushes*
Like I said, I take no risks with my own or my client's health but when it comes to my Pro tools I take extra caution. No cross contamination here!

After EVERY use (from Fashion Shows to Personal Clients) I always give them "The Works"...Brush cleaner, anti-bac, Shampoo & Conditioner.

I'll usually bring mini ziploc bags & give them the sponge, powder puff (and sometimes lashes) for them to keep.
If I used every day Ardell lashes, they can keep them. If I'm on a shoot & I use Make Up For Ever fantasy style lashes, I'll take them back & disinfect them.

*My Brush Belt*

You would not believe what this thing has been through or for exactly how long I've had it because of how new it looks! That also goes for my brushes that call it "home." Preservation is the key to longevity in this case!
Once a month (or sooner if needed) I like to take everything out of my brush belt & wipe it down using Clorox Wipes. These clean every drop of makeup & dirt while disinfecting, leaving it looking shiny and new!

It doesn't matter what your preferences are as far cleaning products go but you MUST clean/sanitize/disinfect your tools. Regularly!

Keep it pretty!

My *Hair Whisperer*

Once upon a time my Mom was a phenomenal hair stylist. To prove it, she got a job right out of beauty school working for a French salon on Madison Ave. She was a great stylist but really shined as a colorist, as she was able to memorize each of her clients customized color formulas.
Yes, I said "every single one." My Mom is fierce, I know! (2 snaps & a wink)
Although she would only high light my hair every now and then, I knew for sure my Mama could "werque" her shears! Woowee! She always had my hair looking flashbulb ready & flawless! Layers, bangs, blow outs, you name it! So much so that people would stop us on the street to ask who did my hair. True Story.
When I was little, my Mom left the beauty world behind to pursue other business ventures but she remained on board as my very own personal "Glam Squad." She's so good that I didn't entertain the idea of another stylist touching my hair until I was about 22. In other words, I was completely spoiled!
I was fortunate enough to find an amazing guy, (Hi Medo!!) to work his magic on me but I'm extremely particular about my hair. Borderline obsessive! Every time I've ventured out of my "comfort zone" & let a stranger cut it, I've regretted it.
This little intro was to just to let you know what we're working with here, as far as my expectations as a client!

I met Molly through a friend this summer and I liked her right away. She's beautiful, witty and has this "Jackie O" composure about her yet she's extremely humble at the same time. The way she says, "Oh hunny" so nonchalantly is enough to reel in even the biggest sourpuss. As soon as she told me she was a Hair Stylist at the fabulous Boujis Salon & Spa, no less, I took a closer look.
It's my belief that if you wish to obtain a "visual" service, you should always give the professional in question a once over to see what their look is all about. What's it saying?
For example, I get a lot of Brow clients b/c they like how mine are shaped.
You are your own best advertisement!
A few years ago, I was looking to hire a personal trainer but the gym suggested a trainer who was scrawny, with skinny legs and weak muscle tone.  (Womp, Womp) I knew right away it wouldn't be a good fit for me.
My guess is that if you can't figure out what looks best on yourself, chances are you don't have much to offer potential clients. You must have a visible connection to your work. Am I right, or am I right?
Well, having said that, my Ms. Molly has it going on! She's quiet at first but once you sit in her chair, she's totally charming. I realized she's quiet b/c she's taking you in but more importantly she's....listening!
She's focused on you and has excellent communication skills!
Those 2 things are important to me as a client because I need to know you're listening to me!!
I can't tell you how annoying it is to get your hair done and your stylist is talking to someone else, leaving their station or looking around. It's like, "Hello?! Am I not sitting in your chair? Focus!!"
Molly is very professional and dives right in. She's been in the business for over 20 years, although she looks like she's still in her 20's, so she knows her way around any salon. She's very graceful & makes you feel at ease right from the start.
Right before I met her I had just gotten my hair cut by a new stylist. I'm sure we know what happened next. This girl gave me a choppy, layered look. Ugh! It was like I had 2 different hair cuts. Thank God my hair's long enough that I was able to style around it! Molly's been working those layers out while keeping true to my original vision. Gotta love that!
I'm constantly referring people to go see her so they too can pamper themselves with this indulgent experience!
Her rates are incredibly reasonable and believe me, she's worth every cent, and then some.

I had a visit with her this week & it would not have been complete without a few piccys!!

*Coiffed*

*Primped*

*Prepped*

*Polished*

*Voila!*

So there it is, a mini inside look at the woman behind MY pampered tresses! I'll be sitting down with her soon for a full on exclusive interview, can't wait!

Urban Decay, Tarina Tarantino, Make Up For Ever & tokidoki

More of my adventures in Makeup shopping...

The other day I went to Ulta & got the Urban Decay, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Shadow Pencil in Delinquent that I'd wanted for a few weeks. It's a deep shimmery purple that really pops when you add shadow to it. While in Sephora today, I tested it again. I don't know why but it didn't wear as well this time. I ended up returning it. I don't like to do that but since it wasn't used so I didn't feel too bad about it. I got turned off as I felt it wore away & left behind chunks of glitter. I became concerned that it would wear down and I'd look like I'd been at the Limelight all night dancing to techno! Lol!
I just wasn't into it. The others were fine but I wanted purple. Plus, I figured I liked the Sephora brand that doesn't have the glitter but can still pop with added shadow while holding it all together, long wear style. I might reconsider, who knows.
I remembered I still had an Amazon gift card left over from Christmas so I decided to order a Tarina Tarantino, Sparklicity Shimmer Dust instead of buying it in store. It comes in 3 different shades: Gold, Bronze & the original which is like a silver. I got the silver.
It's an atomizer that comes in this beautiful bottle with micro crystalline sparkles that you can spritz on your face, body & hair....like fairy dust! Eeek! You can imagine my excitement! It'll be here next week :-)

Also in Sephora, I got the Tarina Tarantino, Sparklicity Pure in Gold. (They didn't have it on Amazon or I would've gotten it there too)
These are different because they come in pots & are good for eyes, cheeks & lips. They're just the most delicate, beautiful sparkly powders. I would buy every color, in fact I just might!
There are 5 different shades: Pure Bronze, Pure Crystal, Pure Gold, Pure Nude, Pure Opal.

($17)

I was trying to think of what I have that's similar because they're kind of like sparkly pigments. The closest thing I have is Make Up For Ever, Star Powder.
The place to stock up on these intense Star Powders is the Makeup Show so I got 2 samples to hold me over until then. I got #947 (Iridescent Pale Peach) & #926 (Iridescent Beige) I have #941, which I love & I'll definitely get these and a few others at The Makeup Show in full size. They're just my kind of eye shine. They're so pigmented and just the right touch of shimmer. Simply divine!

I knew how amazing the Urban Decay, 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liners were from before but I was looking for a purple this time. I found it in a shade called Retrograde. It's the perfect shimmery deep purple and it's really, really waterproof so it's not moving! I scrubbed my arm w/anti-bac dish soap where I tested it (to swatch it out) & it didn't budge. Love it!!

($18)

FYI-While I was in the Make Up For Ever section, I tested their liquid Aqua Liner and I noticed the 7 Diamond Black Purple is the EXACT same formula as the Urban Decay!
The only 2 differences were the MUFE has a felt tip & costs $23 while the UD has a teeny hair like tip and costs $18.
It ends up boiling down to how you prefer to apply, what you want to spend & if you have loyalty to either brand. I promise you they are the exact same product. Just saying...

(Clockwise L to R: Sparklicity Pure in Gold, Make Up For Ever #926, #947, 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner-Retrograde)

Last week during my Sephora Birthday haul, I wanted this tokidoki Rollerball Set of 6 mini fragrances. I liked all of them so I asked if they were going to be discontinued soon. I explained that since I liked them so much and they're so little, they'll run out & I'll be stuck with none. The cashier said they probably would be so I put them back in an attempt to avoid a broken heart.
Apparently it wasn't an issue today!! Lol
I went along with the "It's better to have loved & lost than never to have loved at all" approach. I'm sure I'll survive! ;-)

How cute are these? I couldn't resist!!
($18)

As I was waiting to pay, a sales girl approached me with a sample of "G" perfume because she saw I was wearing a Harajuku Lovers top. It was very sweet of her & I actually like it a lot too.
Today was clearly an aromatic day because when I paid I was given another perfume sample, this time of Escada's, Rockin' Rio. I got a bottle of this a few years back & used it start to finish over the course of one summer. It's such a sweet, exotic blend that really has an aura of an exotic, fabulous place!
It's a smaller bottle than my beloved Narciso Rodriguez's, For Her so it was gone rather quickly! I was so happy to see it again that it went on my list of things to pick up soon.
That's it for today, I'll be sure to review my Amazon goodies when they come in!

Keep it pretty!

(OCC) Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics-Lip Tar

I first met David Klasfeld, the founder of OCC, a few years ago while I was taking the Beauty Makeup class at Makeup Designory(aka MUD) in downtown Manhattan, NY. (I just wanted to clarify the location because there's another in California.) I had stayed after class one day for an airbrushing lecture which had David as the instructor. He was warm & friendly as he demonstrated how to use his new OCC airbrush system.
Air brushing is not something I have ever had a real interest in but I went anyway because I like to keep an open mind to different systems & techniques while watching other artists work.
I was amazed at how effortless he made it all look. It was a very interactive, hands on type of class so he would ask us questions and vice versa. I commented on the work he'd just done on his model & he said, "I can tell you're very good with color." Yes, that was me tooting my own horn :-)
I never forget a kindness, so this compliment/observation always stayed with me.
I ended up running into him afterwards at a few events/classes & always wished him well. When I heard of the flagship store opening a few months ago I was really proud because it's hard to establish yourself in the cosmetics field with so many products out there. But OCC managed to create something unique, there really is nothing like it that exists. End of story!
About 2 months ago, I went in to buy some Lip Tars I'd been wanting from the "Pretty Boy" collection and was able to tell David how proud I was of his accomplishments, as he is quite deserving of his success. In part for making such amazing products but also because he's just a cool guy. (Hi David!!)
A few months after that initial class, I went to the annual Makeup Show, that I love so much, and saw there was an OCC booth set up selling airbrush products along with some nail polishes and a new lip product called Lip Tar. I tested it on my hand and knew right away that this was not your average lip gloss. I had never seen anything like it, ever! Being that lip products are my specialty, I pride myself in knowing, right away, what's what but I was stumped!
Was it a form of lipstick? Was it a gloss or maybe a stain? Whatever it was, it stayed on my hand for 2 days until the last trace of it finally disappeared!
To clarify, it's silky but not goopy so at first you think,"oh cool, it's a gloss" then you look again and you're like, "hmm maybe a lipstick" finally you surrender & come to the realization of, "ah, ok. It's a severe lip stain that tastes a little minty with a long lasting satin finish." Done!
There weren't that many selections so I chose a deep red called: NSFW
I realized after many wears that it's an intense, and I'm not using that word lightly, satin lip stain. You can wear it alone but you need only the teensiest, tiniest drop and even that's too much! It's as if you applied a long wearing lipstick, then blotted but it still looks & feels fresh. Bizarre but so fabulous!
You can add pigments to the clear one (which is on my wish list) and mix them up as you choose. I've given these as gifts so many times & people just go wild!
To say "a little goes a long way" is putting it lightly, the word that best describes a tube of Lip Tar is, Phenomenal.
I can't believe I don't have more, but that will change after I stock up at the Makeup Show in a few months. I'll be sure to tell you all about it ;-)

*FYI* I realize that to the untrained eye, Pageant & Pretty Boy may look the same but trust me, they're not. They are similar but Pageant is a deeper, bluer pink.

Oh, before I forget, ALL OCC products are Vegan & Cruelty Free! Also free of parabens & harsh preservatives. The air-brush system is Oil-Free and water, tear & sweat proof. All airbrush foundations can also be applied by using a foundation brush and they are also qualified for HD use. Talk about versatility & getting your money's worth!!

They also have a PRO program (better known as the OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Discount) which offers 20% disc. to professionals. Does it get any better? ;-)

Fi.R Cosmetics-Pigments

Pigments are one of my favorite makeup items. They're versatile, as you can use them dry or wet for a more intense look. Also, most are diverse enough that you can mix them in your glosses & even nail polishes. It's fair to say they serve their purpose in the Makeup world.
I first learned about Fi.R Cosmetics' mineral pigments through twitter. As I've said before, I've never been a fan of mineral products but I had to make an exception for these.
The company is a little more than a year old with it's base being in Tampa, FL.
Fifi Rodriguez, the founder, is a triple threat! She's a seasoned Makeup Artist who has both Nail Tech & Esthetics licenses so naturally, having her own business seemed like the next step.
ALL matte & shimmer pigments are custom blended and Chemical/Cruelty Free. Love it! They can be used as eyeliners as well, making them more valuable.
The word Fi.R stands for her name, Fifi R. & for "FIERCE," which I think is brilliant! It's fun, flirty & catchy- everything you look for in a colorful brand. It's also cute because I say fierce, often. You'll see ;-)

Pigments are $10 each but there are bundle options where you can get 5 for $40 or 3 for $25. Again, awesome!
Fifi is as gracious as she is generous and sent me 4 pigments to try.
I swatched them out dry and then wet so you can see how intense they get.

Chrome (Shimmer)

Bronze (Shimmer)

Onyx (Matte)

Champagne (Shimmer)

By the way.... Onyx is SO intense I had to give it an extra scrub for it to come off. It's no joke!
I hope the pics do these sparkly gems justice because they're so deep. I will put them all to good use, one way or another ;-)

I looked through the entire line and I have my eyes on these next:

Pink Panther

Retro Collection

Jazzy Jewel

Midnight Sparkle

Blood Diamond

Neon Red

ClickR- No More Derma Drama, daily dermabrasion wash

Ok so about 2 weeks ago I noticed this company called ClickR while browsing twitter. I had just started my blog but I'm always on the lookout for new brands to try anyway.
I know I've said this before but I really do appreciate when companies are responsive. By that I mean, they acknowledge you either by answering you on twitter, responding to your emails & their level of customer service, if you will.
Maybe it's the growing up in NYC that instilled in me some sort of shock when people are nice (haha) but I'm always pleasantly surprised when people take notice of me and do so kindly.
Having said all of that, I liked ClickR right away. I had a whole back and forth conversation with Lauren from ClickR (Hi Lauren!!) on twitter about the brand. Aside from Lauren being a doll, I was drawn to the look of the brand. One of my favorite color schemes is hot pink, black & white. I notice I tend to incorporate those colors in my style quite often & sometimes I'll change up the pink to make it softer but I just love that color combo!
Their colors are hot pink, black & white.

So began the love affair....
I explained I had a blog & asked if ClickR sent out samples.
Sadly, I didn't get a sample....Instead I got a FULL size bottle of their No More Derma Drama, daily dermabrasion wash!! Gotcha! ;-)

It came almost instantly and I couldn't wait to try it. When I opened the box, I liked how it came wrapped up ever so nicely, with some literature on the company & product, which is always helpful b/c I do read everything I can before I put anything new on my skin. It also came with a personal, handwritten note thanking me for offering to try, and write about, their product.
If they hadn't "had me at hello" then this is where they would've gotten me!
I love had written letters! I still send out my Christmas Cards, individually adding personal touches to each one.
Yes, typing is easier but to me, and this is just my opinion, it's a nice personal touch. I'm old fashioned like that so I notice & appreciate the little things :-)
That's not to say I hold anything against typed responses. Just saying!! Lol

($32-3oz)

While reading about the company, it was then that I saw all of their products are VEGAN.
The also contain NO:
*Artificial Colors
*Parabens
*Phthalates
*Sulfates or Petrochemicals
*Endocrine Disruptors
*Allergen Fragrances
And NO Animal Testing Whatsoever!

After reading all of that yummy goodness, I noticed this particular product was targeting a person that may have acne. Well, I do not.
I was discouraged for a second, I'm not going to lie.
This is the exact reason I read all of the information, because it also states it can be used by ALL skin types. At first I was confused b/c I know in the past when I've, for one reason or another, used a product that's for acneic skin types or oily skin, they dry me out instantly! They usually don't smell too good and have little to no slip, like I can feel the detergent & astringents in them! Eeek!
However, after using it, I don't believe I've ever been so taken back by such a diverse product. I've said how I like my products to focus so I was shocked to see how well it worked, considering I'm not technically it's target consumer.

The day I got this was an off day for my exfoliating. I exfoliate 1-2x a week so I still had another day before I could use this. I was so curious at this point and I'm sitting there looking at this pretty bottle, thinking of how I could try it without putting it on my face.  Hey, I get excited to try new products, don't judge me! ;-)

So I washed my hands with it, towel dried them & put a light layer of this sweet smelling wash on the back of my hands.
My point in doing that was to use it as an exfoliating treatment, Also to see if it dried out my hands, I'd know it wouldn't be right for my face. I figured if it is a combative acne product, it'll still at least clear away dead skin. I left it on for about 30 minutes.
It stayed moist, never drying up and my hands felt velvety smoothe after. Bingo!
The next day I used it in the shower and before I put my moisturizer on I realized my skin was velvety and not dried out at all. In fact, it felt taut but not dry, smoothe but not greasy. It was perfectly cleaned!
I'm thanking my lucky stars right now that I have a big bottle of this stuff because it's now on my product rotation. This worked so well, that I'll only need to use it bi-weekly!
It's like those clarifying shampoos we use every 2 weeks to really clean our hair out. You don't need it every day but you definitely need it every 2 weeks!
To be clear, those clarifying shampoos, although they will clean out all build up, they can feel "squeeky clean," like all the moisture's been sucked out too.
This felt more like a renwal of sorts.
The moral of this story is, read all literature before using new products, thoroughly. Or you'll miss out! :-)

So, big THANK YOU to Lauren & everyone over at  http://www.clckr.com/
for making something that's as environmentally/people safe as it is effective and, for lack of a better term, just awesome!

Keep it pretty!

*Birthday Blog*

Every year on my birthday I do the same thing. I go to M.A.C, Sephora & Godiva and treat myself to makeup & chocolate. I usually get a mix of things from Sephora, lip gloss from M.A.C & assorted truffles along with my guilty pleasure; White chocolate covered strawberries. Yu-mmy!
Sometimes I'll throw in some clothes, shoes and jewels but I always make sure I get the basics first! Thursday was no different except I got some LUSH bubble bath goodies too!

I was happy to go to M.A.C because, well, I always am considering I get a 40% PRO discount, but this time I also had 6 empty lipsticks so I was excited to get a "free" gloss.
For those of you that don't know, M.A.C has this amazing recycle program that allows you to return 6 empty products and in return you get to pick a lipglass, lipstick or eye shadow. Who wouldn't love that?! I know I speak for a lot of shoppers & beauty lovers when I say we love to get free stuff!!
Even though it's not technically "free", it's a nice exchange. I like comapnies that "give back." Considering the rate at which I buy makeup, it adds up.
I saved $20 between my exchange & discount! So, Thanks M.A.C, Love you guys!!!! : )

M.A.C Goodies:
*Lipglass, Underage (Recycling exchange)
*Sheen Supreme Lipstick, Full Speed ($8.70-Reg. price $14.50)
*Amplified Creme Lipstick, Saint Germain ($8.70-Reg. price $14.50)
*Plushglass, Bountiful ($11.10-Reg price $18.50)

So the first thing I wanted was so gorgeous and of course it was sold out!! I was so mad, it was a scorching hot pink called Party Parrot. I looked for pics but none of them do it justice. I'll just pray they come out with something similar soon.
For my "free" lipglass, I picked Underage. It's been around forever & I've wanted it forever so I just finally got it.
Then I got a refill of, one of what's become, my favorite lipglosses ever at this point, the Plushglass formula (which means it's a tingly lip plumper) & it's called Bountiful. It's a beautiful shimmery pink that I've worn with everything & it smells delicious!
Then I saw these delicious little treats in the Sheen Supreme Lipstick section. They're supposed to be sheer but they're not at all! They're creamy & pigmented so I got a bright orangey one called Full Speed, to mend my broken Party Parrot heart. Haha!
My last pick was an Amplified Creme Lipstick called Saint Germain. I fell in LOVE with this CremeSheen Lipstick called "All Styled Up" and of course, it sold out before I could stock up so this was close enough. It's too bright of a pastel so I'd wear this with a lip liner like Spice (also from M.A.C) to tone it down & give my lips more dimension.

I took some pics  of what they look like on me so you can get a better idea of how they catch light. I didn't use lip liner b/c I wanted you to see them just as they are.

Underage

Full Speed

Bountiful

After M.A.C I hit Sephora, ready to shop! I had a mental list of left over goodies I didn't pick up for Christmas & as usual, my ever faithful Sephora didn't let me down.

Sephora Haul:

My first 3 picks:
*Urban Decay Primer Potion, Sin ($19)
*tokidoki Eye Shadow Cube, Adios Cromatico Palette ($5-Originally $19)
*Sephora Brand Jumbo Crayon Waterproof Liner, Black ($10)
(From L to R: UD in Sin, tokodoki cube(4 colors), Sephora JumboLiner)

The Urban Decay, Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin completely lived up to it's reputation. It's a beautiful champagne primer that's so intense you can easily skip concealer around the eyes & just use this. It's indestructable as it wears for hours, like I had to scrub it off my arm. Definitely a Must Have!

I saw this little tokidoki gem in a discount bin for $5 but when I went to check out, it rang up as $19. I told the cashier that it was in a discount bin AND it was my birthday....whaddaya know? He gave it to me for $5!
What can I say? As a native New Yorker my negotiation skills are pretty sharp...*blink, blink, blink*
It's pigmented enough on it's own but I'm sure I could turn it up a notch or 2 with the right primer/base.
The BEST part is the little zipper pull it comes with! I love stores like Kid Robot & the little mystery boxes they have w/these kind of Japanese inspired designs. Super cute for adults & kids alike!

I'm really glad Sephora makes their own makeup, because it's pretty awesome. Period! I've always turned to them as a less expensive alternative to some of the mainstream brands & they've always come through. I picked up their Waterproof 12Hour Wear Crayon Jumbo Liner . Basically it's a big  waterproof liner. I tested it on my hand, saw it was durable and got one in black. They had great colors but I have a lot of colored pencils already, so you can never have enough black. Smokey Eye Galore!!

Next 4 picks:
*Sephora Brand Cream Lip Stain, Strawberry Kissed 03 ($12)
*Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara, Black ($10)
*Korres Lip Butter, Guava ($12)
*L'Occitane, Dry Skin Hand Cream ($10)

Ok, so speaking of Sephora brand, I got this amazing Cream Lip Stain, the shade is Strawberry Kissed 03. It's a matte, rich, strawberry red stain. I put it on using the wand w/no lip liner & it went on SO precise! It dries quickly & let me stress it's super matte, so if you're looking for any moisture, forget it. However, it's extremely vibrant!! It's perfect for when I want something bright. I'll probably wear this with just mascara, and some bronzer.
Helloooo Summer!!

I had heard about the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara for a while & just kept forgetting to get it. True story. I was really impressed with it! The wand is so teeny tiny, that it's perfect for the bottom lashes, making application a breeze! It dried nicely & I even used it for the baby lashes in the corner of my top lid to bring them out more. This is also good for extending the lashes in the outer corners.

I got a Guava flavored Lip Butter from Korres. I was introduced to this brand at the Makeup Show a few years ago & I really like them. They had a few different flavors like Pomegranate, which were tinted, but this one is clear, smells delicious & feels so silky smoothe while it melts into your lips! I used it at night and woke up w/my lips juicy plump!

Next up is one of my favorite hand creams. I usually have one in my bag at all times. It's the L'Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream. I love the smell & feel of this cream. I will definitely be trying more products from them soon.

And last but not least...
I mentioned in a previous blog that I was looking forward to trying the fresh lip treatments & I almost bought one. I had it in my basket but the Korres lip butter stole me away. It's not like I knew how they'd feel b/c like I said, I NEVER use testers on my mouth but the smell of the Korres is what I was attracted to. I felt bad but figured I'd buy it at some point.
Well....I go to check out and the cashier gives me my birthday gift and it's a fresh, Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo!!! It totally made my day!! I love when things like that happens! See? This is why I like to shop ON my birthday at Sephora! :-)

I was about to go home when I saw a LUSH store staring at me so of course I went in. It's really overwhelming when you first walk in b/c there are so many scents competing w/each other so it always takes me a minute to adjust. Once inside it wears away & then you can appreciate all the bubble bath goodies they have! I LOVE bubble baths and these just make taking them a whole lot more fun!
I've used some of their lotions but I mainly buy their bubble bath fizzy balls. Most look like scoops of ice cream while others are shaped like robots, planets & flowers.
I got a Honey Butterball & a Vanilla Fountain. They also gave me a free sample of their Karma Kreme, which I loved. It's a nicee blend of florals & patchouli. It's strong so a little goes a long way.

Honey Butterball ($4.95)
Vanilla Fountain ($6.25)

Lastly, I regret to inform you of my Godiva treats that sadly did not make it into this photo album b/c I ate them almost as quickly as I bought them.
Actually, that's not true at all, I have NO regrets about how quickly I devoured my chocolates! LOL
It was my birthday & I'm a woman who loves her chocolate, give me a break! :-)
For the record it was my Mom who introduced me to the ever indulgent world of Godiva. For as long as I can remember, she's always loved them and we always gave & received them as gifts. So, that deserves a big Thanks MOM!!! Xo

Keep it Prettie!!

boscia samples came in!!

I became a boscia lover a few weeks ago when I bought their moisture mask/moisturizer. I raved about it, wrote a blog about it & the company contacted me to say "Thank You." I was fortunate enough to have them send me some samples of their other products for me to try.
I have to say, now that I've had a chance to try more products, I'm really impressed with the brand as a whole.
They describe what sets them apart by stating...

"Each of the boscia skincare products, with the exception of the Blotting Linens, contain Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, and Jojoba Leaf, a strong and effective antioxidant. Together, the integrated boscia line combines the strength of cutting-edge botanicals and the latest scientific research to help its customers achieve healthy skin."

Their products are ALL botanically based & preservative free.

This sampler came in the same day as my Beauty Army kit but I wanted to wait so I could try everything.
This is what came in:

*Recharging Night Moisture ($44-1.4oz)
*Luminizing Black Mask ($34-2.8oz)
*Restorative Night Moisture Cream ($48-1oz)
*Restorative Eye Treatment-For Under-Eye Bags ($48-.5oz)
*Green Tea Blotting Linens ($10-100 Sheets)
*3 of the B.B. Cream SPF 27 PA++ ($38-1.75oz)

The first thing I used was the Recharging Night Moisture. It was the perfect consistency, moisturizing but not greasy, left no residue & my skin felt pliable in the morning. It's so powerful, I decided I will only use it 1-2x a week, tops. This is best used the days I exfoliate/mask. It's named perfectly because it does recharge your skin, gives a boost. It promises to, "...repair, strengthen and improve skin elasticity and firmness." That's exactly what it felt like it did.

Company Description: (Why It Works)
Encapsulated Ampelopsis Grossedentata absorbs easily to strengthen skin and diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
Phytoglycogen helps restore the look of vitality to damaged skin.
Hydrolyzed Yeast rejuvenates and promotes new skin cell production.
Hyaluronic Acid provides essential moisture.
Jojoba Leaf, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage while it nourishes and protects skin to prevent premature aging, and Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation

I had heard all about the Luminizing Black Mask & was really excited to try it. Even though I don't have oily skin, it's still good to use on my nose. I have always love, love, loved peel off masks! Bath & Body Works used to make this amazing citrus peel off that smelled good & had a slight tingle, but that got discontinued years ago & I haven't found one I like that much since. I've used the Queen Helene Cucumber Peel Off Mask but it's too drying for my skin. So I really had hopes for this one! Unfortunately, when I went to squeeze it out, it was empty! Empty like it had never been filled so I didn't get to try it after all. Bummer! I'm sure it was a mistake but I'll get my hands on some soon because it's on my radar now.

Company Description: (Why It Works)
Vitamin C helps brighten skin tone and reduce the look of fine lines.
Montmorillonite Clay absorbs excess oil, dirt and toxins from the skin.
Pine Bark Extract, a powerful antioxidant, conditions the skin and defends from free radical damage.
Jojoba Leaf, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage while it nourishes and protects skin to prevent premature aging, and Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation.

At first glance I thought I had received 2 of the same product but I realized The Restorative Night Moisture Cream is different than the Recharging Night Moisture. For starters, the Restorative is a lot richer. It's also a night treatment but this focuses on  evening out skin tone, dullness & fine lines. It's intense so it was like a shot of collagen. I wanted to put it all over myself, head to toe! haha
It's so intense I plan on using this every month as a treatment. I recommend this for people with very dry or even damaged skin to use more often.

Company Description: (Why It Works)
Palmitoyl Penta-Peptide, an effective amino acid, minimizes the appearance of fine lines.
Magnolia Bark Extract improves skin elasticity and firmness.
Mulberry Extract reduces the appearance of age spots.
Jojoba Leaf, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage while it nourishes and protects skin to prevent premature aging, and Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation.

I liked the The Restorative Eye Treatment right away because of it's very blunt description right on the tube. I notice cosmetic/skincare companies are always looking for different, encouraging, polite ways to sell their products. This tells you straight out, it's "For Under-Eye Bags."
I'm a native New Yorker, so I'm sure you can understand why this no holds barred approach appeals to me :-)
I understand better than anyone, sometimes there's just no other way to say something. You can try to sugar coat it or say it in your nicest tone but it's still what it is.
I appreciate that in cosmetics b/c products shouldn't be full of surprises. They should be upfront about their intentions & your expectations for them. So I thought this was a great approach!
This worked well for me. I've been typing a lot so my eyes feel tired. This felt cool & soothing and a little goes a long way. It's not greasy & has a nice slip. You can use it day and night, which is nice.
This is a new product for the company & apparently I'm not the only one who thinks it's amazing, it's out of stock on the website, backordered until MARCH 1st!!

Company Description: (Why It Works)
 • Complex Peptides minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve firmness and reduce puffiness.
Sodium Hyaluronate
provides long lasting hydration.
Vitamin E
and Canadian Willowherb Extract, powerful antioxidants, protect from harmful environmental damage.
Jojoba Leaf
, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage while it nourishes and protects skin to prevent premature aging, and Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation.

I haven't been the biggest fan of blotting papers strictly because I've never had oily skin. Even when I'm sweating, I've just never been into them for myself. They seemed to break easily & the second you put them on your face they become useless. I've used them on clients & I always carry them with me on jobs but it's not the first thing I reach for in my kit to combat oil.
These yummy little Blotting Linens have changed that for me. First of all, I like that they're called Linens instead of papers. It makes them stand out. I know I like to call things as as they are but the word "Linen" by definition means, cloth woven from flax. These are not weak like most papers, they are stronger, like linen. They're made using Abaca Tree Plant.
I tested a sheet on a friend w/oily skin & it picked up every drop of oil & gave a matte, refreshed appearance. Not cakey, not dry, not even disturbing their makeup. The sheet was still completely in tact! I used it on myself at the end of the day to see what would happen & it freshened up my whole look, without touching my makeup. They're magic! They have a faint Green Tea scent which is probably hard to detect unless you know it's there so it's not overwhelming.
They also come in Lavender, Vanilla, Rose, California Orange & Peppermint. I heard the Peppermint are amazing as well!

My first impression of the B.B. Cream SPF 27 PA++ was not great. I thought it was going to go on heavy & at first it looked way too light for me. Before giving up on it, I went onto the website & looked it up.
It's a tricky little product! It comes in one, warm, self adjusting shade which I was amazed to see disappear into my skin within minutes. It has an unusual SPF 27 PA++, which the website describe it as, "...The PA system is a grade of UVA protection that provides superior defense against the rays that cause collagen damage and photo-aging of the skin..."
The best way to describe it is: it's a tinted moisturizer w/SPF, that doesn't feel heavy but your skin feels encapsulated (protected from the sun & free-radicals) all the while creating a flawless, radiant finish that's pretty much undetectable.
Needless to say, this just gave my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer a run for it's money. True Story.

Company Description: (Why It Works)
Abyssine, a naturally-derived survival molecule, shields and soothes skin.
Hydroxyprolisilane promotes skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines.
Beta-Glucan provides essential moisture and protects against environmental damage.
Jojoba Leaf, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage while it nourishes and protects skin to prevent premature aging, and Willowherb, a unique anti-irritant, helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation.

The company also has a Rewards system, which I like b/c people like incentives to shop. For every 300 points you accumulate (1 point=$1 spent), you get $30 towards your next purchase. Sounds good to me!

Keep it pretty!

PrincessDominique.Com & The Weekly Shoe Giveaway

This is my first Fashion blog and of course it's dedicated to...shoes.

Like any other living woman, I love my shoes. So when I heard about PrincessDominique.com & The Weekly Shoe Giveaway, I stopped what I was doing to go sign up for a chance to win a pair of free Christian Louboutins. Yes, you heard me right. They're gorgeous too, red with spikes all around them & a fun bow on top. So punk chic!! I'm not usually a fan of red shoes but these are stunners!
It's really very simple, you sign up & you can win free shoes.
Obviously the shoe giveaway is a big attraction for me but then I read the "About" section. I read about how the site's creator, Linda "Princess Dominique" Grosvenor started her blog 8 years ago in 2004. I like that, like myself, she's a NYC girl who built this empire from the ground up but what I liked reading about was her recent work with Project Prom Angel.
As it's described on her site, "...she partners with generous sponsors to assist lower income teen girls with acquiring shoes and dresses to attend their prom..."
I love that idea for obvious reasons, it's awesome! It gives every girl a chance to be princess for a night and I'm all for it! Congrats to Linda for giving back! ;-)

About the Shoe Giveaway...I copied the list of participating brands so you can see just how amazing this opportunity really is...

"...Some shoe companies, boutiques and other entities who’ve  sponsored shoes in The Weekly Shoe Giveaway™ on PrincessDominique.com include: farylrobin, Sarah Riley Shoes, Nina Shoes, Naughty Monkey, Jen + Kim, Hautelook’s SoleSociety.com, RJ Girl Footwear, GlamRockChic Shoes, Wanted Shoes, Fergie Shoes, Coloriffics, Naya Shoes, Report Signature, Jessica Pritchett, Butter Shoes, Sassy Shoe Gallery, Lauren Luna Ltd., Nora Karen, Ms. Mary Mac Shoes, ShoeGasm Gallery, the Kiwi Shoe Company, Two Squared Entertainment, Love Better Camp, Inc., Unison Event Planners, and the list keeps growing. We always get a tremendous response from readers and new unique visitors as well. Let us position you in front of your target audience for a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising..."

This is a great way for shoe companies to get their product out to the masses.
I've shared a few tweets w/whoever operates their Twitter account @MissPrincessDom, I'm guessing it's Linda, maybe? Hmm, either way she's responsive & very sweet.  There's also another boutique she operates; selling/consigning vintage furs, bags & other goods called PD Vintage Boutique. Their Twitter is @InstantVintage_

When I went to the main site & the page opened: I saw a little black dress, hot pink heels, a Chanel bangle, Hello Kitty diamond necklace & fingerless gloves.
Without seeing anything else, just by the fact that I'd wear every item, I knew I was going to like the rest, and I did.
Go sign up now!!

Keep it pretty!

Benefits of Essential Oils/Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy: Therapy through aroma or scent via perfume, cosmetics, medically, massage, body wraps, vaporization, bathing
Essential Oils: An aromatic & volatile (evaporates easily) oil, usually derived from the odor expelled from plants, obtained by distillation or the process of expression.

The use of Essential Oils to heal or enhance is a time honored ancient tradition, celebrated by the Egyptians, the Chinese & also certain practices found in India. I may not agree with all of the philosophies of these & other cultures but I do believe in using Essential Oils as a valid alternative in skincare.
I was introduced to the world of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy when I was in school getting my Esthetics license. I immediately took to it! I started using these oils more & more as I saw the benefits on myself & in my treatments on clients. From body wraps to waxing, they're truly amazing!
I've been mixing up my favorites for years so hopefully I can sell them soon!!

*Please be mindful of your current condition if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, have heart and/or blood pressure concerns.
ALWAYS read directions before coming in contact w/Essential Oils directly, as they are very powerful & should rarely, if ever, be used neat.

*Always store oil blends in glass jars in a cool, dark place*

Here's a list of popular Carrier & Essential Oils & what they do:

Carrier Oils: Used to help dilute the Essential Oils so they don't irritate the skin when we apply them. Although there are many, these are the most recognized.

*Jojoba- This oil resembles human sebum (the skin's actual oil secretions) so it's a great moisturizers that sinks right into the skin. It's water soluble so it never leaves an oily residue. It's used in massage therapy & numerous cosmetic procedures. What I love most about this is it benefits ALL skin types! It also breaks down dirt, unclogs pores, removes makeup, has anti-inflammatory & anti-aging properties, is a mild sunscreen and it NEVER goes bad!! I use this personally all the time.
*Sweet Almond- Extremely softening, this oil is excellent for sensitive, dry, itchy skin conditions. A lot of products used to soften cuticles have this listed as the main ingredient b/c it's so effective in emulsifying tough skin. Made of proteins, vitamins & rich in minerals, this is excellent for massage & facial oils.
*Grapeseed- This was the first carrier oil I was aware of using & I liked it right away. It's a powerful anti-oxidant, thin oil, w/a nice light scent. It doesn't smell like grapes or anything like that but it has a soft typical oil aroma. It also has some minerals, vitamins & proteins so not only is it a great massage oil but it works wonders in beauty/skin treatments.

*Essential Oils:

Tea Tree: This is probably the most recognized oil amongst the masses. It's wide known for it's anti-fungal, anti-viral & antiseptic properties. It absorbs into the skin quickly, is non irritating having little to no side affects, is nearly neutral in pH and b/c of it's pleasant odor it's cosmetically suitable.

Chamomile: It's main purpose is to soothe & relax! It's good for use on nerve related skin irritations like eczema. It's the greatest in anti-inflammatory ingredients & is gentle on sensitive skin. It benefits swollen, itchy, red, sore allergy induced conditions.

Lavender: This oil is also easy on the skin w/anti-septic properties. It's a natural at healing wounds therefore preventing scarring. It works well w/all complexions especially blemished or oily skin. This is one of the few oils that can be used neat if necessary.

Rose: A favorite used in cosmetics & perfumes. This anti-aging healer, keeps skin healthy, elastic, lubricated and less wrinkle prone. It's great for sensitive, mature/aging skin but also benefits all complexions/skin types. Rose water, although lighter, is still effective.

I listed some possible ways to mix these mystical little potions & some easy recipes you can make at home. I've made a lot of these as per the request of my clients, so I know they work!!

Bubble Bath:
Add 5-10 drops of either oil to a warm bath, for desired results.
Relaxing...Lavender
Soothing...Marjoram
Invigorating...Rosemary

Soothe Irritated Skin:
I like to mix a few drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender & Chamomile in a small jar of Jojoba and apply to freshly waxed skin. My wax clients love this b/c the slight tingling from the Tea Tree feels refreshing while the Lavender & Chamomile soothe & calms the irritability just caused by the waxing.
This is a client favorite!

Itchy Dry Scalp: (2ce a week until scalp clears up)
Wet hair
Scrub scalp with 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix 5 drops of Tea Tree oil w/1 tsp of mild shampoo
Shampoo & rinse
Towel dry hair
Apply 3-5 drops Tea Tree oil to scalp, rub in & comb through.

Headaches:
*Inhale 3 drops of Rose and/or Lavender from a tissue. You may also apply 1 drop to each temple.
*Mix 4-5 drops of each Lavender, Marjoram & Peppermint in a Carrier Oil of your choice & use to give a firm neck/shoulder massage.
*3 drops of each: Lavender, Rose & Chamomile to warm bath

Nausea/Vomiting:
Inhale Lavender or Peppermint from a tissue or use a few drops in a vaporizer.

Athlete's Foot: (Itchy feet)
Wash & dry feet
Soak feet (daily for 5-10 minutes) in warm water adding 5-10 drops of Tea Tree & 1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
Add a few drops of each Tea Tree & Peppermint to pefume free foot cream.

Dry/Cracked Skin:
Mix 3 drops of Rose & 5tsp Avocado Oil (Carrier Oil)
Apply daily to affected areas.

There are so many options!! I like mixing & trying different concoctions. I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of the more modern medicines out today. I believe a lot of what's out there ends up doing us more harm than good. A lot of these more natural remedies have fallen away because of the tendency to over prescribe medicine for every and anything that brings people into see their Physician . I'm aware that some conditions need more serious treatment, I'm just offering this as another option for other issues that may not be as serious.

One of my favorite places to shop for some of these oils in bulk is: http://www.heatherloraine.com/

Keep it pretty!
