Beauty Army-April 2012 Haul

I'm starting to feel like every time I turn around I'm opening a new Beauty Army kit! Yay! I love it! The month goes by so quick and before I know it, I'm getting new packages. Great way to start the month if you ask me ;-)

(Clockwise from L to R)
Boo-Boo Cover Up, Photo Defense (cellCeuticals), Lemongrass body lotion (Indie Lee), Daily Lip Nourisher (pur-lisse), My Mix foundation-Medium 02(MyFace Cosmetics), Pink Sugar Perfume (Aquolina)

I picked the Lemongrass lotion because the fabulous Indie Lee gave me a sample of it when I saw her few weeks ago and I just fell in love with it on the spot! I like the clean scent of lemon & this is just super fresh! Also, lemon is rich in natural oil so like her body scrub, it's really moisturizing. I tie citrus into summer and as the weather gets warmer, this will be gone quickly!

I actually used the MyFace foundation (Medium 02) to test the consistency. The word "foundation" kinda scares me because I personally prefer tinted moisturizer, nothing heavier than that. So I was happy to see this wasn't heavy at all. In fact, it went on like a second skin and was the perfect shade. Even though it wasn't heavy, I can see this being very buildable for those areas that need more coverage. I would love to stock my kit with this product! Must have for you and your kit...You heard it here first! ;-)

The Aquolina perfume, Pink Sugar, looked so pink and pretty that at first glance it looked like a piece of candy! Lol!
I love perfume and wear it daily so I'm always willing to try something new. I'm trying to think of the best way to describe this scent...It's like a mix between soft cotton candy and Egyptian Musk.
Those are the 2 scents that hit my senses the hardest. I was curious to see what exactly was in it and couldn't believe I missed so many ingredients but I was close! Lol!

I picked the cellCeuticals PhotoDefense Anti-PhotoAging SPF 55+ to keep in my goody bag stash. I know I like the brand already so I'm confident anyone I give it too will as well :-)

Just last month I received a full size of the Boo-Boo Cover Up concealer in my Beauty Army gift basket but I picked this so I could have one for myself as I knew I'd be using the full size in my kit. Never hurts to double up on the good stuff!

Before going to sleep every night I have to moisturize my lips. My nightstands are never without at least 3 different options! I've been doing this forever and I've come to the conclusion that exfoliating my lips with a washcloth (2x a day), keeping them constantly moisturized and drinking a lot of water is what keeps them plump & soft. I liked the pur-lisse lip nourisher because it's simple. No flavor, color and it's really soft. I like that it's petroleum free because contrary to popular belief, I know it's not a moisturizer for lips. Petroluem based products don't penetrate the skin so they may feel good but they're not effective.
The pur-lisse can be used alone day/night but also as a lip primer under lip gloss and/or lipstick.

Keep it pretty!

Caboodles & Caravan Stylist Studio

Most girls I know have, at one point in their life, owned a Caboodles makeup case. I know I've owned a few! My first one was purple, w/sparkles, pull out drawers & a mirror.
Before that, I had a few lipsticks & glosses so I kept them in a pretty box. When I got my Caboodles case, it made it so easy to keep everything organized. Which is good b/c I like everything at my fingertips when I'm getting ready. This is what started that idea for me. Even better that it came in a carrying case so I could take it with me if I traveled.
Since then, I got pink & silver cases of different sizes and something I use to keep my Q-Tips/cotton rounds in. I even had a huge case that opened in the middle with roll out sides. That was my favorite because it was like a compact mini suitcase! I wouldn't board a plane w/out it, as it fit perfectly in my Louis Vouitton duffle bag.
Clearly this was before the airlines would bark at you for trying to carry lip gloss on a plane. I mean, it's lip gloss, not nitro glycerin. Whatever!

I met Alyson (social media director for Caboodles) at The Makeup Show in LA last month. We had actually already been following each other's blogs & on twitter. I didn't know she did work with Caboodles until after we'd met. It was through her that I found out Caboodles was celebrating it's 25th birthday this year and had gotten a major makeover! The cases have all been revamped and are more fashion forward than ever! They're all grown up and not just for teens anymore. They're mature yet fun & sexy, perfect for women in their 20's & 30's. This is not a little girl's makeup box, by any means!
Alyson then put me in touch w/Betsy who invited me to check out the Caravan Stylist Studio in Manhattan.
How could I say no? Lol!
Caravan is a wardrobing studio that brings designers, artists, celebrities together through events thrown at the studio itself, to bring attention to the eclectic mix of brands being hosted at the studio as well as to the Fashion District in general. They offer hair, makeup & wardrobe options for artists so they can learn about the new trends & amazing new designs while the artists can bring recognition to the brands all at once.
Do you follow? : )
It's a brilliant, win/win concept! Caboodles is one of those brands, fortunately for me! Lol!
Located right in the heart of the Fashion District on 38th & 5th Ave, the studio has seen it's share of the "who's who" in entertainment. If you're not a celebrity when you walk in, you will definitely feel like one walking out. I know I did!
I took some pictures to show how amazing this 2,500 sq. ft space really is!

Welcome to Caravan!!

Over in the "West wing" there's a beautiful seating area

Exposed brick AND a ceiling to floor window...Love!

Chic & cozy :-)

The "right wing" (as I call it) leads to wardrobe, hair & makeup or "accessory heaven" as I also like to call it! Lol!...

But before you get there, you have to stop and look at this gorgeous "Enchanted Forest" mural...Pretty, right?

Anthropologie.com

Once you get to the end of the hall, stop & look at the racks of clothes from amazing designers like:
Walter (WalterBaker.com)

T.Tandon (T.Tandon.com)
Rae Collections (RaeCollections.com)
House Of Gods (Houseofthegods.co.uk)-This was My Fave!
Rebecca Minkoff (RebeccaMinkoff.com)
Eva Franco (EvaFranco.com)

I got in & right away I had my hair washed & styled, makeup ready!
Seriously, I don't usually let anyone do my makeup but Adreanna is as sanitary as she is talented (2 things I look for in a Makeup Artist) She knew what would look best on me w/out me having to say anything, which really impressed me. She also worked wonders on my hair and made the whole experience an absolute dream!!

I wanted to list the products she used on my skin/hair because I really liked & recommend everything!
Hair:
Joico, Shampoo
CHI, Infra Treatment
Warren Tricomi, Blue Gel
Babyliss Hot Tools

Skin:
DDF, Aloe Toning Complex
DDF, Wrinkle Resist Plus, Pore Minimizer

      Makeup: ULTA
Mouse Foundation (Buff Beige)
Bronzer
Eye shadows (Cherry Bomb, Eggplant)
Mineral Eye shadows (Dessert, Embers)
Liquid Liner (Black)
Tinted Balm (Glow)
Mascara (Black)

Voila!
Did I tell you she worked wonders or what?
I had dinner plans after this and I was pretty dressed down but I had this glamorous, cascading hairstyle...Lol! I loved it!
Thank goodness I had after dinner plans as well, I felt way too glamorous to keep it all to myself! ;-)
She really is a brilliant stylist for both hair AND makeup...Cheers to you Adreanna! Xo

So after I got gorgeous, she gave me a makeup bag from Ulta with some makeup/products inside....
Fabulous Face Foundation Primer
Eye shadow quad in "Good Girl"(I say quad bc of the 4 colors but this one is a circle...Lol!)
Nail Polish (Concrete Evidence)
Automatic eyeliner (Black)
Tinted Lip Balm (Glow)
Super Shiny Lip Gloss (Clear-05)

Then I got to pick a Caboodles makeup case!!!
Of course I picked the "Rock Star" case...I actually picked it bc I love lace and this one just seemed the most like Me :-)
This style also comes in silver w/black lace but I wanted pink!
I have a few train cases and carrying systems for my kit but none like this This is definitely the prettiest case I now own!
So femme fatale!

Then I got to pick products & I chose this Deep Cleansing Brush from DDF (Doctor's Dermatologic Formula)in like, 2 seconds! This comes with a full size tube of polishing scrub. Adreanna then gave me 2 products to go along w/it so I'd have a complete system to use. I like taking steps when giving myself facials...Lol!
So now I can exfoliate, treat (serum) & moisturize.
-DDF Amplifying Elixir (Serum)
-DDF Ultra-Lite, Oil Free Moisturizing Dew

I was also given a bottle of Tibi Tonic to try. You're supposed to drink half before you go out drinking (intentionally or not! Lol) then you drink the other half either before bed & you should wake up feeling fresh...aka-not hungover. I have yet to try it but I will let you know how that works out...haha!

After all of this I wandered over to the wardrobe, accessories, shoes and bags section!
The lovely Lauren was amazing and showed me around while introducing me to all of the designers and products (Hi Lauren! Xo)
I made a bee line right for the House Of Gods rack. They're a UK based brand. The clothes are all hand made & the fabric is soft, almost silky and the tops all had really cool images of rock legends like David Bowie, Iggy Pop & Debby Harry (one of my all time faves!)

The girls were so sweet and told me to pick a bag. I had my eye on the black studded guy on the middle shelf to the left or the red studded bag to the right but then Adreanna pulled out the bright orange bag on the top (middle) shelf. I said, "Yep! That's the one!" Lol!
It was fresh for summer, how could I go back to black? : )

Nail Of The Week-"Sally Girl Green"

Ok so this nail polish has a number, not a name, but that is so annoying that I just named it "Sally Girl Green" even though in some lights it looks more aqua.
It's actual number is 812014. I picked it up last week in Sally's when they were having a "buy 2 get 1 free" sale on the mini nail polishes. I'm not a big green or yellow nail polish fan for myself but this was so pretty & different from anything I have that I couldn't pass it up.
I've also been very intrigued by all of the green I'm seeing this season so maybe that's what prompted me to buy this, who knows?!
So for $2 I got 3 mini polishes. This is 2 coats and no top coat! I've had this on for a few days and no chips either. Like I always say with these little minis....Not bad for $.99!

Pinnacle Cosmetics

Private label makeup has always appealed to me because it's basically the SAME thing we get in stores only less expensive. I've tried other brands but was really impressed with what I found at the Pinnacle Cosmetics booth at The Makeup Show LA! They have a full line of products but I picked these...

(L to R) Luxe extreme Lip Gloss, 5 Crushed/Loose Mineral Shadows, Sheer-Glo Shimmer Lotion

The lip glosses smell & feel EXACTLY like MAC's Lipglass...only they were half the price. The loose mineral eye shadows were more like pigments and the Sheer-Glo shimmer lotion was so amazing, I think I actually clapped when the lovely Vita gave me one to try!

                                         (Thank you Vita!!! XO)

She also gave me a choice of lip gloss and I picked the Luxe Extreme formula because she said it was the thickest and I personally feel they last longer but they are very sticky so it's a personal preference. It doesn't bother me at all!
The Sheer-Glo shimmer lotion can be used alone on the cheeks or as a highlighter. It can also be mixed into your foundation for a "lit from within" type of glow. I also bought 5 of the loose mineral crushed shadows. I'm not the biggest fan of mineral makeup but I thought they were pigments at first because they were so strong. I was sold on them the second I tried one. I believe they can also be used wet for a more intense look.

(L to R) Slip On, Purest, Ignite, Mellow, Bar Hop, Metalico, Fake-It

The Slip On lip gloss is actually a color I don't have so it kind of jumped out at me. I knew it would wear well alone or over other lipsticks in the same family of pinks/purples.
Purest is a shimmery snow white and because it's so finely milled, I figured I could also use it as a highlighter.
I loved Ignite because it's a blue/black and I know it will pop if I wear it over these new deep blue eye liners I got from Auraline (also private label).
Mellow is pure gold! It's gorgeous! I got it because there was no way I was not getting it! Lol! Funny thing is, I don't even wear gold but I knew I had to have it in my kit because someone will fall in love with it!
Bar Hop (I love the name! Lol) is a deep plum and it's also a shade I didn't already have. I've worn it 2ce already! Once as a smokey eye and the other just in my crease, amazing both times!
Metalico is a light gunmetal which I knew would be perfect for the days/nights I wanted to wear a gunmetal/grey smokey eye.
There were a few shades of the Sheer-Glo shimmer lotion but Fake-It was my favorite because it's closest to what I wear usually which is Orgasm (NARS). I have so many highlighters but this shade works so well with everyone so I figured I could always use more. It's different than the NARS shimmer lotion because it's a little thicker & more intense, which I liked.
I wish I had gotten more of their makeup but there's always online shopping! Lol!

Loose Lips Share Tips-Vol.3

These lip swatches are from March but because I've been a traveling Dixie, I'm just getting around to posting them now!

(L to R) Who's That Lady?, Maniac, Cassis, Adrenaline, Plum Steel, Tickled In Pink, Candy Land

Who's That Lady?, Lip Gelee (MAC)
This happens to be my favorite color of all time. Ever.
The soft pink with light, prismatic shimmer. This is my "old faithful" color for lips, eyes & nails., It's so dainty and I find myself buying this shade, or variations of this shade, more than any other. It's what I refer to as Princess Pink! When this came out I only got 1 but then went through it so fast I went on eBay & got 3 more...at $30 each. I know, what was I thinking? But I knew I'd want more and I feel better knowing I have extra. MAC makes a similar color called "Moonstone" which has less shimmer but I still prefer this one ;-)

Maniac, Long Wear Lipstick (Sephora)
I got this because it was such a bright color. It's a really blue-ish fuchsia and the texture, although it's "long-wear" is really smooth. I wear this to go out with either purple or black smokey eyes but if you wanted to have real fun with this, I'd go for blue smokey eyes. It's also nice enough to wear during the day but keep in mind it catches the blue in the light. Super fun!

Cassis, lip liner (The Body Shop)
Adrenaline, Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color (Urban Decay)
I wore this combo on New Year's Eve this year. I went to a 60's/70's theme party and this was my take on a Studio 54 disco lip! I love how the deep fuchsia liner puffs my lips when mixed with the bright lip color. It added dimension and the sparkles kept it looking fresh and fun. Love this look!

Plum Steel, Pure Color Gloss (Estee Lauder)
This gloss is actually not as bright as it looks in the tube. I wore it here to show the color but if you use a brighter lip liner or a more solid color underneath, it will perk up. I like to wear this with a matte look so it can stand out. The smell is one of my favorites, as it does not smell like chemicals but sweet, which I like.
That, and I love my purples ;-)

Trimmed In Pink, lip liner (MAC)
Candy Land, Xtreme Lip Cream (NYX)
I always go back to my pinks! I was so impressed with the first Xtreme Lip Cream I got (Strawberry Jam) that I went back to see what other colors I'd like. I picked this because it looks kind of mauve but I know that this shade turns pink on me so I knew with the right liner, it would be fab! This liner is the perfect step below hot pink. It's bright enough to kick up the color on something like this but it's not too bright where it will look ridiculous alone. I wear this day and/or night :-)

Klout Perk-Simple Skincare

I received my second "perk" from klout about 2 weeks ago. I got a moisturizer and pack of cleansing facial wipes from Simple Skincare...
I'm always curious to see how products that claim to have no perfumes, dyes, harsh chemicals (and are "good for you") really feel because of the expectations put on them. I was not disappointed!

I like cleansing wipes in general, even though I will wash my face anyway after using them. The Simple wipes are soft, odorless and they do a great job of removing makeup, even mascara! I put them to the test to see how strong they were and used one to wipe away a swatch of some OCC Lip Tars....they removed about 98%! Which is pretty good considering when I use my lip tars, I usually have to wipe, wash AND scrub my skin after. OCC is no joke! :-)
These wipes are good to carry if you want to freshen up your skin during the day. Also, I definitely wash my face every night but not the second I walk in the door from being out. I would use these first, just to get everything off my skin and then do a more thorough cleansing right before I go to sleep.
They're not drying like most facial wipes probably because they're alcohol free but my skin did feel a tiny bit tight. Not exactly dry but not 100% moisturized either. However, they don't have oil so they don't leave an oily residue either, which is good because the oil can be irritating.
It says to "avoid direct contact with eyes" but I totally poked myself in both eyes while removing my mascara & they didn't sting at all! Lol! It was weird because I was absolutely expecting my eyes to start burning but instead my eye area felt cool but in a menthol way, not irritated at all!
I'm not sure what it would do to the product (I'm guessing nothing) if I put these wipes in the refrigerator but I can't help but think they'd feel amazing after a long day! It would be such a great pick me up to wipe away the day from your face but to have them be cold also will tighten the skin and calm/soothe any redness as well....Just an idea ;-)

The moisturizer and wipes both contain Pro-Vitamin B5 (smoothing/softening) and are Dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic. Basically, they won't irritate the skin or clog pores!
I really like the moisturizer and wore it a few times. I was expecting it to be lighter than it was but the consistency was good for me. Not too thick and not too light. It really has zero perfume, which I must admit is weird, everything has perfume! Lol! It was refreshing at the same time, so I'm not complaining. Some of it's main ingredients include Glycerin (hydrates)-Bisabolol (calms) and Allantoin (softens.)

While in Target today I noticed that both items are moderately priced for $9.99 (moisturizer) and $4.99 (wipes) which is great. I was expecting them to be a bit more for some reason.
I'd like to point out that this brand would be perfect for someone with allergies or sensitive skin. I don't have sensitive skin but both the wipes and moisturizer felt good going on. I'd pack the wipes in my kit for sure because I'm sure they'd work on all skin types. I'd use the moisturizer as well on clients that didn't want anything heavy or scented :-)

Nail Of The Week-"Arsenic" & "Spanglemaker" By OCC

This week I found myself thinking of what to do with my nails after last week's show stopping color ( "Radiate" also by OCC) and I came up with this firecracker of a combo...Arsenic on top of Spanglemaker. I was going to go with something bright and pink but this polish is as pigmented as the lip tars. 1 coat of each and my nails looked like sparklers! I could've just used 2 coats of Arsenic but I wanted to use both to make it less dimensional. I do this a lot, mixing colors and I picked these both because I knew they'd layer well.
You can't go wrong with OCC ;-)

(L to R) Arsenic, Spanglemaker

Nail Of The Week-"Radiate" By OCC

I have been feeling very into bright colors lately. The weather's getting warmer, I'm dipping more into my bronzers & tanning creams so naturally this always makes me want to wear brighter shades of everything!
For the record, I LOVE OCC makeup. In case you didn't know or are reading my blog for the first time ever, I'm just making it clear :-)
I noticed Tangerine is very fresh for summer this year and I love orange shades anyway so I'm happy to wear them.
While at The Makeup Show in LA a few weeks ago, David (owner of OCC & brilliant Makeup Artist) gave me a little carte blanche treatment when I got some goodies "on the house"...Yay! (Hi David! Thank you, I love everything!! Xo)
One of them was this gorgeous nail polish I picked out. It actually picked me because it was like a bright light I couldn't ignore! Lol!
It's named perfectly because it does "Radiate!" As bright as it is in the bottle, it's even brighter in the sun! I stepped outside and it looked like my nails were under a black light! I've never seen anything like it. Even in the picture, it looks like a neon glow stick.
Anyway, it's gorgeous, I love it, I'll be wearing it on my hands and toes a few times this summer, for sure!
What's written on the bottle is...100% Vegan AND Cruelty Free. A.k.a...Buy this product because it's awesome! Lol!

Sugarpill Cosmetics & Pursebuzz

One of the highlights from The Makeup Show (LA) was stopping by the Pursebuzz booth and meeting the Sugarpill girls! I have always loved really girly accessories. Bows, hearts, rainbows, mermaids, cupcakes, stars, hearts, lips, lighting bolts...you name it! My Mom started buying me Hello Kitty items when I was a baby (most of which I still have & in mint condition) and I've always gravitated towards cute characters/images like that. With what's out now, I like the brands Tokidoki, Harajuku Lovers & stores like Kid Robot & Toy Tokyo that sell anything that's cute along those lines. They tap into the little girl in me and even though I don't wear these items every day, they're still very present in my life.
When I saw that Pursebuzz was going to be at The Makeup Show in LA I knew I was going to buy something! I had gone on the website beforehand and feasted my eyes on all the fun accessories that are right up my alley!

Love my goodies!

When I got to Pursebuzz booth I immediately fell in love w/and bought this ring! It came in red and a deep pink but this was my favorite.
How cute is this?! It's SO Me!! Baby pink bling lips & mini lipstick! Love it!!
I kept directing people to the booth because of all the compliments I got from it! Lol!

I introduced myself to Elessa Jade (owner) and she was just the sweetest woman ever! She saw I had a press pass and asked who I wrote for. I gave her my flier and said it was for my blog.
She then gave me a few items that I have worn all over the place already. (Hi Elessa!! Thank you again! Xo)

A Pursebuzz Pink Headband with a bow...

...a Silver Spike Stretch Bracelet and...

...Pink Crystal Stud Bow earrings.

Aside from her online shop, Elessa has so much going on! If you go to her website, you can click on links to see her YouTube tutorials and fashion/lifestyle tips. I can spend a good few hours just looking at everything and shopping! Lol!

I saw the Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow sample on the table and took one because I had been wanting to try their makeup. I've seen a few tutorials with people using their makeup and it just looks amazing!
Goldilux:
SO pigmented and shiny! It looks like real gold! I have my eye on a few others now because they're so amazing ;-)

I also got a sticker! I've collected fun stickers forever and this one is so girly. It's pink and swirly and glittery! Weeee! I love the logo, it represents the brand so well!

When I actually saw Amy (owner) & Yume (works for Sugarpill,) I felt like I was in a rave! They looked amazing!
The colored hair, platform sneakers, Hello Kitty bags...it took me back for sure! Such sweet girls and they look like they have fun in life and in what they do!

(L to R) Amy, Moi, Yume

How fun, right? :-)

Even though the brand is just over 2 years old, it's already left a mark on the makeup world. It's brought something bubbly and carefree to the table, which I think was missing. A lot of brands offer makeup for fun but but Sugarpill really lives it, so it's for real!
Amy started her business a few years ago with her clothing company called, Shrinkle. The makeup was launched to compliment that, which I think she's accomplished ;-)
I remember seeing @macNC40 (Suzy) wearing a pink, fuzzy hoodie in her avi on twitter and asked where it was from. She directed me to Shrinkle and that's how I got interested in the line.
She was also super sweet!

Speaking of colorful...I know I mentioned it before, that I got to meet Lauren (Queen of Blending) but I never posted my pics. If you don't know who she is, please Google her name and watch her videos. She's adorable, extremely humble and has so much talent!
I've seen her and a few other girls use Sugarpill in tutorials and heard them mention Pursebuzz so this all ties in together.
If you use it all together, it works! The accessories, makeup and clothes. It's very "club kid chic" but very put together. Years ago the people going to raves and such always looked a hot mess, this is different! Now I know why they love it all so much! Lol!
